Pachyderm Penumbra

Elephant society is collapsing across the globe because of habitat loss, encroachment, poachers, and the ivory trade. Because of the protective nature of an elephant herd, poachers will shoot at a baby first. The herd will gather around the baby, leaving the elephants vulnerable to slaughter. Practices like these caused elephant numbers to dwindle, and herds are now only a shadow of what they were. It is estimated that only 40,000 to 50,000 of these majestic animals remain in the wild, and this threat endangers us all, as these intelligent, gentle giants, who experience many of the same emotions we do, play a vital role in their ecosystems.
